Herbert Benson, M.D. helped to demystify meditation with his well know book, The Relaxation Response. There are many ways to meditate, simplest way to to meditate is this:
- Sit in a comfortable, quiet spot with your spine straight, a chair is fine.
- Close your eyes and begin to focus your attention on breathing.
- with each exhale, silently repeat a simple word or phrase, such as the word "one"
- Continue for 5-20 minutes
- The mind will wander, this is normal, simply refocus.
